The Friday Edit: Vol. 3

What I Did This Week//

This week was all work and routines focused. On Monday, I had to get up at 6am for work, like that was the absolute latest minute I could get out of bed. But then for the rest of the week a little voice in my head said “What if we did that every day?” and so far I have. I don’t bound out of bed and exercise, but I get out of bed, make myself a coffee, and sit on the couch to journal, sit with my thoughts, and read 10 pages of a non-fiction book before I dive into social media etc. I don’t think it’s having quite the same impact that my summertime 6am walks to the beach did, but I’m not hating it.

Now that I’m thinking about it this week was kind of about switching it up. I decided last weekend while cleaning my apartment, that I was so over using all of my weekends to clean and do chores. So last night (as I write this) I decided that I was going to start to experiment with Thursday night chores, so I have my fourth load of laundry in, including a load of couch slipcovers that were looking gross and I cleaned my kitchen. Which means that over the weekend all I will have to do is wash my bedding, clean the bathroom, and do my ironing. Which I think should leave me with a ton more time for socializing and little projects and stuff. So we’ll see how this goes.

In fun things, our town’s little coffee shop has started to stay late on Wednesday evenings and I went with a couple friends and played board games. It was nice. It was very chill.

Then this weekend there is a social, it’s just this area’s word for a dance basically, but given that there is not much in the way of dancing/”club” opportunities here, they are kind of a big deal. So I am looking forward to it.

Fun // Interesting // Introspective

I’m back in the office full time, but I’m going to apply some of these home office refresh tips to my office desk.

How to be a better hotel guest.

The reboot of Gossip Girl (which I have to admit I never watched) got cancelled “because it’s expensive to look this good” which seems accurate to me.

Meta (aka Facebook and Instagram) are being told by their parent company that can’t censor female nipples anymore.

Julia’s Home Edit series is always one of my favorite blog posts of the new year: bedroom and living room, kitchen,

Of all the publications, print and digital, I feel like Nylon is the only one that truly gets me because we will ride at dawn to defend Buffy the Vampire Slayer‘s brilliance, storytelling, world-building and devastation as a perfect art form.

The world is losing a true leader on the international stage.

France has made it illegal for companies to force participation in “fun” activities – and now I really wish I had gotten that job in France last summer.

Also in the category of new year posts I love, annual shopping planning or wish list posts.

Why do we tie our identities to our physical activities? (See biker, hiker, runner, yogi)

We seem to finally be moving past the logo-mania trend and I’m so excited.

How, why, and with what to double-cleanse (another thing I will stay on my soapbox about).

2023 Bag Trends. I’m into them.

Maybe it’s my new job, but I’m definitely in my “be prepared” era, so this list of things to keep in your tote bag (in combination with my new Beis Work Tote that I’m obsessed with) added a few things to my shopping list.

If we are on the same side of TikTok then you also know that the rumors that have spring out of the new Miley Cyrus single Flowers are insane, and seemingly just appeared? Luckily, this author gets paid to research stuff like this.

TV shows to binge on what is sure (if the weather of January thus far is any indication) to be another dreary January weekend.

How to take better photos with your phone.

A very interesting article about how much time people actually spend working in the office.

What Vogue editors wear to work, for a little inspiration.

What I’m Buying in January – I have literally bought three more books since writing that post, but in my defense I had gift cards.

Pretty and Practical

I’ve been loving my new Rare Beauty blush, not over-hyped at all.

Still obsessed with my Beis Work Tote, as previously mentioned.

Maybe a weird thing to include in this section but this Smoky Potato and Kale Soup is so delicious and filling.

I am so tempted to shop the final Whitney Simmons x Gym Shark collection, but I am so far resisting the urge.

Have a wonderful weekend!
