Halloween Movie Marathon

Halloween movies are some of my favourite movies, they are so campy and ridiculous and they dip their toe into horror movie tropes without being scary, which I cannot handle. They are just so fun and are the perfect start to cozy season.

The caveat to my list is of course, that there are no scary movies allowed in my house. Jennifer’s Body is as close to horror as ever plays on my screen. This isn’t a completely comprehensive list, but these are the classics that I watch year after year.

Practical Magic. This movie isn’t on any streaming services, I own it on Apple TV. This is one of the perfect witch movies, it’s wildly feminist, gorgeous, has a ginger main character, is set in a gorgeous New England village, with amazing 90s fashion, everything that you could want in a witch movie. I’ve already watched this one this year.

Hocus Pocus. This is an obvious one, it is one of THE Halloween movies. There’s also the sequel this year, which I’m not certain how I feel about. The original just wrapped up so well, it such a perfectly self-contained story. I’ve also already watched this one this year. Disney+

Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire. This is one of my all-time favourite Disney Channel Original Movies, it is hilarious, campy in that innocent way that only DCOMs can be, and a tale of sibling rivalry turned friendship. I’m literally watching this one as I write this. Disney+

The Rocky Horror Picture Show. This movie is pure camp, it might just be the gayest Halloween movie to ever exist. It’s hilarious, it’s terrible and hasn’t aged well at all, but it’s just perfect. This one also isn’t on any streaming service at the moment, so I own this one through Apple again.

Halloweentown. This is another classic DCOM, it’s like campy American Harry Potter with a girl main character instead of a boy and less deep. Like most Disney movies it also has themes of being your true self and connecting with family. Disney+

Jennifer’s Body. Like I said in the intro, this is as close as I get to horror movies, it’s iconic. Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried are perfection in it. And the fact that the line “I’m not killing people, I’m killing boys” is viral on TikTok at the moment is even another reason to watch the movie now. Disney+ which I have to say surprised me.

Scooby Doo: The Movie. Another iconic movie, one of the best TV show to movie adaptations to ever exist, Linda Cardellini, Sarah Michelle Geller, Freddie Prinze Jr., Isla Fisher, Rowan Atkinson, Mathew Lillard, it’s just all so good. Prime.

Not on the graphic, but no less iconic are The Addams Family and its associated movies, Casper the Friendly Ghost, Bewitched, Twitches, The Harry Potter Movies, Double, Double, Toil and Trouble (Mary Kate and Ashley in their acting prime), The Nightmare before Christmas, Ghostbusters (and all associated movies), and Twilight are all perfect options.

Happy watching!

Laura
