What I’m Buying in July

I’m doing a bit of a low-buy this month, May and June were pretty spendy with trips to Winnipeg and Minneapolis, and I need to bring it back in and re-focus on my other financial goals again. I do however really need some new activewear, a couple skincare restocks, and it’s my birthday month so I’m considering getting myself a birthday present, but I’m not sure yet.

One. Midnight Paloma Exercise Dress – Girlfriend Collective. I have been wanting an exercise dress and athletic wear from Girlfriend Collective for ages, at least a couple years. So, I’m really excited about this order, it is taking it’s sweet time to ship to Canada, but I’m still excited about it.

Two. Black Rib High-Rise Run Short – Girlfriend Collective. I have decided to give bike shorts a shot. I am hoping they will provide what I like about leggings and shorts, without any of the things I don’t like about leggings and shorts. I’m hoping they don’t ride up the inside of your thighs when you move like shorts, but they will be cooler than leggings, like shorts are. So I guess I’m trying to Goldilocks summer activewear.

Three. Gold Between Hoops – Mejuri. These are what I am considering buying myself for my birthday. I really want a pair of small-ish gold hoops that fully close in the back (so that masks don’t get tangled in them). I have a silver pair that I got for my 18th birthday and I wear them all the time because they can stay in my ears for days with no issue, so I’m basically looking for a gold version of that. I am hesitating with Mejuri because it has become a brand associated with Toronto influencers, and I think it’s a patriarchal holdover but I don’t really want to be associated with that.

Four. Moss Simone High-Support Bra. My activewear is really looking worse for wear. One set of leggings I have been wearing multiple times a week since 2017, and sports bras since 2020 and they are just getting done. They are still very comfortable, but not providing the support I need for a good workout. I’m hoping this one will be a good one for me. I only ordered one so that I can try them out before I completely replace my drawer.

Five. Farmacy Deep Sweep Toner. I love this stuff, this will be my second bottle, I don’t really break out anymore, but this stuff really does help with the clogged pores and sebaceous filaments that do happen in my t-zone. It also makes my skin feel clean. I don’t use this every day, but 2-3 times a week.

Six. Biossance Squalane Vitamin C + Rose Oil. I think I have written enough about this, this is probably my 6th or 7th bottle of it (which is terrifying to think that I have spent about $600 over the past few years on this). It is expensive, but I absolutely adore it and the way it makes my skin look and feel.

Seven. Sony Over-Ear Noise Cancelling Headphones. This was an unexpected purchase for me, but last week was my first full week back in the office (the office went back 3 weeks ago, but I’ve had work trips every week so I hadn’t been in the office full-time until last week), and I need something to block out the background noise. Everyone is still taking meetings virtually, so we are all doing our meeting talks in our cubicles, and I can’t handle it. I need to block out other people’s meetings. So I caved and got some noise-cancelling headphones. These were also on crazy sale.

These are all my planned purchases, I’m re-focusing (as I said in the intro) on credit card repayments and savings, but I’m glad to not be so overwhelmed by the state of my wardrobe, over how I’m running out of shampoo, face skin care, socks, etc. I feel settled, which is very nice.
