Friday Favorites:

This week has been the week that it feels like everything is turning a corner, the snow is really melting. We did have another snow storm yesterday, an absolute dump, it was close to 18 inches of snow. And this time of year the snow is very wet and heavy, no light, fluffy powder at this point in the year. But the sun is out and feels warm, my mood if graphed would be an exponential line.

I also took Wednesday, Thursday, and today off, I’m pet sitting so I can’t go anywhere but I think that is a good thing. If I wasn’t pet sitting I would be tempted to go somewhere and do something, which would end up stressing me out more because I would be spending money and doing things instead of resting. And the point of these days was to help me catch up on sleep and not feel so exhausted and burnt out all the time. So that’s the real high, I’ve been getting enough sleep, and just being chill. I’m not even putting pressure on myself to clean my apartment (not being there is helping with that), or work on the blog or make content. Just being. I also was able to get an appointment to get a lash lift and my eyebrows done because I was available in the middle of a weekday, so that’s today.

Social Media Favorite: Rachel Nyhuus

Rachel is the newest Sorry Girl of “The Sorry Girls”, a Canadian DIY YouTube channel. It originally started with Kelsey and Becky, college roommates, and then in the past year? six months? Rachel has been added to the regular hosting of the channel. And at first I was like, I think she might be too young and too trendy for me, Kelsey’s style is normally the one that I connect to most, but in last week’s The Sorry Girls YouTube video it felt like her personality really exploded through and I love her now. Also, I need her to drop the wellness routine because the skin, the hair, the body, all insane.

Movie/TV Favorite: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

I finally started watching The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, I have this weird tendency to put off watching/listening to/doing things that I know I know I will enjoy, I don’t know why. So I knew I would enjoy this show, but it wasn’t until Mary Orton (@MaryOrton on Instagram) stayed in the press suite at the Plaza Hotel, and I was like okay, I need to watch this. Season 4 just came out, but I am staring at Season 1 of course, and I’m only 2 episodes in and I love it.

Podcast Favorite: Teach Me How to Adult: The Quickie: How to Have More Energy

This episode had perfect timing, I have been thinking a lot about this thing I learned in high school physics, and I’m not the first person to apply it to humans, but it’s Newton’s First Law of Motion, the Law of Inertia. An object in motion stays in motion, and conversely, an object at rest stays at rest. It takes a lot of energy to both stop and start an object, and the same applies to us. So this episode coming out on Wednesday when I was starting my burn out recovery days was perfect timing.

Random Favorite 1: The Comments Section of the NPR Obituary of Steve Wilhite

Okay this is a weird one but stick with me for a moment, this requires some context. Facebook is the most popular social media in the North, I don’t like it, but it’s true, which means I have been using Facebook more in the past year that I have in like the 6 previous years since I got Instagram. One of the pages I follow on Facebook is NPR, because I am a liberal snowflake. Yesterday they shared their obituary of Steve Wilhite, the inventor of the .GIF file, the man who gave us the GIF, and in the comments section people are honouring him by sharing their favourite GIFs and it’s just so pure and it’s the least contentious NPR comments section I’ve ever seen, and it just is the best of humans on the internet.

Random Favorite 2: This Berry Cheesecake Recipe

Okay, so this is another one that requires a bit of explanation. Epicure is a MLM, I know, I know. HOWEVER, you don’t actually need the one Epicure product used in this recipe to make the smoothie delicious. I don’t. But I have eaten this smoothie every day this week, and my parents eat it every weekday and have for nearly the past 3 years. It’s thick, really filling, and delicious. However, if you are lactose intolerant, this probably won’t work for you. But it’s really good.

Have a great weekend!
