Saturday Scroll: US Open, Beyoncé, star-crossed, and the Met Gala

I got to do in-person work yesterday! It was thrilling, I’m also exhausted. The most tired I have been in ages. My organization has two hostels that they operate in town right next to the hospital for people who are coming down from remote communities for health care treatment and yesterday was World Suicide Awareness Day, so we were tabling (I feel like that is such a college/sorority term!) there. It was really great and a great way to end the day.

I’m completely obsessed with this year’s US Open turn of events, a two immigrant teenagers from the UK and Canada coming out of absolutely nowhere to dominate. My favourite fact about Leylah Fernandez, Tennis Quebec kicked her out when she was 7 for not being a good prospect, we love an underdog.

A really interesting reflection of how the design of the memorial at the World Trade Center has impacted lower Manhattan over the past 20 years.

Why does coffee sometimes make you tired.

The TikTokers who spammed the abortion reporting sites in Texas with Shrek memes deserve medals of honour.

How to handle when to leave at a filler job.

I’m always looking for new podcasts, I already listen to several on this list, but there’s also a lot I have never heard of!

I love this Ikea hack

I haven’t tried this yet, but this seems like the bible of eyebrow maintenance.

The intersection of travel and fashion.

A guide to tequila.

My ideal self is a hat girl, but I don’t know if I actually am one.

It may be basic to love Annie Leibovitz’s photography, but I love her photography, and she has a new book with some of her images for Vanity Fair and Vogue that is definitely going on my Christmas list.

Creating the ultimate cozy fall reading nook.

What is the Met Gala and why is it important (and why is it in September this year)?

I haven’t watched star-crossed yet (because I’m not sure where to in Canada yet) but I did listen to it over and over yesterday and I am already obsessed with it and what I imagine the imagery to be.

I’m obsessed with the idea of Saint Hoax being the official meme correspondent to the Met Gala. They are an artist.

Beyoncé’s birthday looks are superb.

If you haven’t been so frustrated you cry in front of your closet, I don’t think we can be friends.

I’m not sure I’m buying many autumn specific clothes, apparently it is an incredibly short season up here, but I love Carly’s fall capsule wardrobe.

And because Canada has an election on September 20th, here’s a couple recaps of the English debate, CBC and NYTimes. Advance polling started yesterday and you can vote in advance polls all weekend! Find your locations here.

Have a great weekend!!
