Happy Wednesday! I hope you are having a good week so far and that it’s not one of those short weeks that feels like an extra long week for you. And if you are reading this from outside Canada or because it’s not actually a stat holiday on Monday and you had to work Monday, I’m sorry, please go get yourself a cupcake or a fancy coffee or whatever it is that you like to make up for it. Spend that time and a half! Or save it, whatever most supports your goals at the moment.
One of the things that my dad says to me that drives me nuts is “Be nice.” it immediately makes me want to curse him out. Like you know what you son of a bonnet I’m the fudgesicling nicest person I know you donkey hat. But this podcast about being nice versus being kind has me slightly questioning that and realizing that I would rather be kind than nice. And wondering about the power of being nice and kind.
Meghan’s post about how she fell in love with Paris has me reflecting on my study abroad in Madrid and how much I am dying to have that kind of lengthy travel experience again. I am ready to go back to Madrid and Alacala de Henares and see the roses blooming and feel the 30 degree heat in April, simultaneously dreading and excited to see what it would be like in July. To hop on a 2 hour flight and be in Rome or Paris or Venice, or Edinburgh, or at my grandparents’, or in Amsterdam. To drink wine in a plaza surrounded by art and literature and just that culture of ease that is so absent in North America. F you Corona, seriously. The cover photo is of the Parque del Buen Retiro in Madrid, one of the most gorgeous and restful places in the world.
My surgery last fall has left my abdomen looking – different. Not that I was supremely comfortable with it before, but now it’s almost like it’s not my body, so this list of one piece swimsuits is very welcome.
I have been waiting for Dove Cameron‘s career to pop off for years, I feel like her single is going to become that song you hear everywhere over the summer and her being cast as Bubbles in the PowerPuff Girls movie (is this the zenith of 90s nostalgia??) is just *chef’s kiss* perfection.
I’ve clearly got summer and swimsuits on the brain.
I love this musing on whether our goals must be productive.
I love this photo-essay of homes that feel like spring.
Carly’s post about what she took on her Arizona hiking trip is hitting me for two reasons. 1) I want to actually properly get into hiking while I live up here and have been googling gear and 2) If it wasn’t for Ms. Rona I would be going to Phoenix this June and had a big road trip planned with stops in Sedona, the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Palm Springs, Los Angeles and ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!
This is currently one of my very favourite recipes. There are not many legit recipes that I go back to again and again, normally it’s something I have made up that I repeat, but this cake is so delicious and rounded out my wonderful solo Easter dinner fantastically. My main was also a Half-Baked Harvest recipe and it was also so delicious.
