What I’m Buying in July

Hey… hey…how y’all doing?

Long time no talk (unless you’re here from YouTube in which case it has only been since Sunday. I have absolutely no plans to be regular on here again, however, I was sitting on my couch after work on Monday and suddenly had the thought pop into my head that I would like to do one of my old staple posts, a “What I’m Buying in…” posts that I used to do every single month. So, uh, fun fact, I live in Toronto now, not Sioux Lookout, and have for like 18 months now….

Anyways, when I lived in Sioux Lookout all shopping required so much research and planning because you had to figure out if it shipped to you, how long it would take, how much it would cost to ship it to you and you would probably get it after the return window closed so you had to be really sure about all your purchases. Since moving to Toronto I have gotten so much joy out of being able to go to a store, pick things up, feel what the materials feel like, how heavy things are, try things on, be spontaneous, that I stopped really planning what I was going to purchase, and I would like to do that more. I think partly because I have so many holes in my work wardrobe that I have to plan, but also I think my impulse spending has gotten a bit out of control and so I want to rein that back in as well.

You’ll see a theme, my work shoes are in a DIRE state – I will not be buying all of these – and then I am ripping through powder and setting spray lately and I saw pan on my powder this morning which means I have 10-12 days left. But, let’s dive in to the items.

*Disclaimer on the planning, because I am going to buy all of this in person, the exact shoes I am going to buy are pending size availability and comfort on try on.

  1. Superga Cotu Sneakers – this is not this shoe’s first appearance on this blog nor in one of my monthly shopping lists. This is my very favourite white sneaker (shout out Kate Middleton for making them so popular), they are very comfortable, don’t make your foot look massive, and just feel a bit more elegant than a chuck taylor // stan smith // air force etc. I would have replaced my previous pair as soon as they wore out, but I could not find them in stock anywhere (if you bitches sell these out before I get one I will haunt you).
  2. Intentionally Blank Ballet Pumps – I have had this pair of cream/beige Mary Janes from Ateliers for the past 15-ish months and I broke the heel off. I wore them all the time in the summer and I am going to see if a cobbler can help me with them, but in case I can’t this would be a good replacement since I cannot find the Ateliers Mary Janes available in my size this year.
  3. Bos and Co Loafers – I have had a pair of brown loafers on my shopping list for literally years, probably 3-4 to be exact since we fully returned from office. However, these have become more urgent because I finally gave up on breaking in my black Vionic loafers after about 3 years so now I have no loafers. My black Vionics never stopped giving me blisters on my heels. These would be the style that I would like if I can get my size!
  4. Cole Haan Loafers – as I said above I threw away my Vionic loafers (literally, I was NOT donating those torture devices) a couple months ago and now that I’ve broken my cream Mary Janes I am wearing only sneakers to work right now, which is okay because it’s Canada and I’m not a lawyer, however it is very much not ideal. If you haven’t tried on Cole Haan shoes, they use sneaker technology on the soles to make not sneakers as comfortable as possible.
  5. Pink setting powder – no this is not blush! So I accidentally bought the Tower 28 pink setting powder at the last Sephora sale instead of my normal translucent so I tried and I LOVED it on my pale, redhead skin. However, I don’t really want to keep spending $42 on setting powder, so I’m thinking about giving this drugstore one a try.
  6. Quo Setting Spray – last year in the beginning of the “elbows up”, “buy Canadian” movement, I tried to switch all my makeup to Canadian brands and tried this setting spray. Y’all it is INSANELY good. The only thing I don’t like about it is it comes in such small bottles.

Back on planning, July is my birthday month and also a 3 pay cheque month for me, so I am thinking about taking $500 to spend on shoes and what I can get for that / what fits / is comfortable is what I will actually be buying.

Thanks for reading – I am far more consistent on both TikTok and YouTube (especially YouTube) these days, if you are interested in video content!
