January has been such a great month, 2023 seriously has a lot to live up to. It was so fun, I spent so much time with people I love, and got to do so many things and it was just a great time.

I started off the New Year with a hot mat Pilates class (with a broken toe from dropping my phone on my foot on New Year’s Eve – it was so incredibly painful). I also took the streetcar to get to the class, which was a big deal for me, I used to be super scared of the streetcars. This class was so good and it just felt like such a wholesome and tone-setting start to the year.

I spent my first week of the year in Toronto and Guelph, seeing friends, taking workout classes and eating. I already wrote a whole post on it so I won’t go into huge details, but if you would like them: here’s the post.

This is a note that blogger and Paris, Perfected owner Meghan Donovan included in one of her emails and I just loved the ending, “moving as thoughtfully as I can”.

I was considering ordering black cowboy boots for an outfit, but I talked myself out of it because a) they weren’t going to come in time for when I wanted to wear the outfit, and b) I don’t really need them. But in my search I found these lavender cowboy boots and I cannot stop thinking about them. I want them so desperately. But I don’t need them, there is never a situation in which I am going to need lavender cowboy boots, but OMG they are so pretty.

He’s just been so cute and cuddly since I got back home.

Is there anything more January?

I came home from a night out and walked into my bathroom to take my makeup off and realized that I left my curling iron plugged in. This is the first time I’ve ever done that, I don’t know if I left it on or not, but it made me super glad I had upgraded to a curling iron with automatic shut-off so I didn’t burn down my building.

In other fear-conquering news, I finally ventured out to walk on the frozen lakes. I was always too scared last winter, but I kept telling myself, if they can snowmobile across it safely then I can definitely walk on it.

This is one of my favourite winter moments, the birds are back in the berry bush.

I’ve been loving all the light leaks from the winter sun around my apartment.

I just love my little apartment so much.
I’m also really excited for February, my sister has made one of her New Year’s resolutions to plan something fun each month, and so far I think I have kind of unintentionally done that. I think that if I learned anything last winter it is that you must have something to look forward to pretty frequently in the winter, every three – four weeks. It doesn’t have to be anything extravagant, which my January and February plans kind of were/are, but it could be something as simple as a movie night, a new book you’ve really been wanting to read, or a weekly fancy coffee. Or even saving up for something so that you can buy something bigger that you’ve been wanting for a while.
I also cannot believe how fast January went by, normally January drags and feels like a whole year all by itself, but this month just flew. It also wasn’t -30 for most of the month, which was such a relief.
Here’s to a great February!
Laura
