July Empties

Like I predicted back in my very light June Empties post, July is a heavy month. As in it didn’t even fit in the box I normally use to store my empties during the month. There’s also a good mix of products here, some skincare, some hygiene, some coffee, a whole assortment of stuff. Let’s talk about it:

Powdered Tide, I use powdered Tide in the Go Clean Co. method, to deep clean all kinds of surfaces, mop floors, and to do laundry. I am mostly back to using laundry detergent strips (these ones in particular) for clothes, but I do prefer this for bedding, cleaning materials, and towels. I did rebuy this in the jumbo Wal-Mart size, it’s at least a year’s worth of laundry detergent, it’s insane.

When I was in Winnipeg I got a Necessaire sample set, these three plus the lotion. Honestly, I don’t get the hype. The scent is just okay, and it’s just okay. The body wash doesn’t lather superbly without a wash cloth or loofa, and I don’t get the point of the body serum. It’s sticky, I don’t get the point.

I’m not re-purchasing this, it’s too expensive and I don’t get the hype.

This coffee is wonderful. Again, a Winnipeg purchase, there’s no Balzac’s there, but they were selling some at Indigo. This is very nice, I really liked it. Would buy again.

I’m back on the probiotic train, they really, really do make a difference.

When I get my eyelashes lifted and tinted, she sends me home with a disposable spoolie with some leftover conditioner on it. This is that.

Toothpaste, nothing more to say.

Mouthwash. I bought this last summer on a whim. I had never seen metal packaged mouthwash before and I wanted to give it a shot. I don’t know if I think mouthwash is necessary? So, I won’t be re-purchasing it, but I have seen it more widely available so if you like mouthwash and would prefer a plastic-free option this is a decent one. But I won’t be buying another mouthwash unless I live somewhere without fluoride in the water again, then I will use the fluoride rinses that you get over-the-counter from pharmacists. They don’t taste amazing, but fluoride is super important for your teeth.

My all time favorite, holy grail, can’t live without it, $95 a pop obsession. I love this stuff.

I got this in a Shoppers Drug Mart, excited to see that there were a couple options for shampoo bars in a mainstream store. I’m really glad to see increased accessibility. However, this does not work for me. My hair was so greasy using this, I had to wash my hair everyday and it was greasy before the end of the day.

The usual contact accoutrement.

Deodorant, you have read my rant about plastic-free/natural deodorant many times, we don’t need to do it again.

A sample that came with my favorite make up remover, I do not like this moisturizer. It feels sticky and tacky.

In my last Sephora order I redeemed some points to try a Ouai sample kit. I am very glad I did, because I did not like any of it. This was my favorite thing out of the whole sample set, but not enough to purchase a full size. I am intrigued by the idea of a scalp scrub, it did feel nice on my scalp. A bit like a hairdresser wash, but I found it quite hard to wash out of my hair. I am wondering about one of those rubber plastic scalp scrubber things (but they remind me of a curry comb so I’m having a hard time with it as a former horse girl).

That’s all folks, as you can see it’s a mixed bag, with most of my new tries not being things that I am into for long-term use.
