January Empties

We are entering year 2 of keeping track of the cleaning, hygiene, and beauty products that I have been using. I find it super interesting, and I don’t think I expected to. When I went in to doing a Project Pan last year it was all about editing every product I used down to a clean or low-waste option. And that changed a bit. My attitude to low waste/zero waste evolved. I think partly because I moved somewhere where it is a lot harder to access low waste options here and everything has to be ordered. And ordering adds a layer of preparedness and prediction that I haven’t been used to before. I have to be able to estimate how much product I have left, how long it will last, and how long it will take to ship. Which in pandemic times is a crapshoot.

This is an example of preparedness that I am still not good at. I went to do laundry last weekend and I had half a strip left. Luckily, I had a box of powdered Tide thanks to the GoCleanCo. cleaning method, so I was still able to do my laundry, but I was completely out of these. I would prefer to go back to the Good Juju laundry strips, I liked the clean better and the scent. But these are available in town, whereas Good Juju aren’t so, I haven’t figured that out yet.

There are a few travel minis in this, they had been in my travel bag since 2018 so I wanted to use them up while I was travelling over the break. I want to get back to using shampoo bars, especially if I get to travel internationally again this year. Using shampoo, conditioner, and body wash bars saves so much space in that teeny liquids bag.

Allegra Shaw said in her video this week that Aquaphor is life. This is the best hand cream I have ever used. It is sticky, icky, but it is so good. I can’t use it while I’m using my computer because I get grease marks all over the keyboard and trackpad.

Another travel empty, a fine toothpaste, I think? I don’t know if I notice a difference between conventional toothpastes. Between zero waste toothpastes and conventional toothpastes, yes, absolutely, I will never use another zero waste toothpaste, they suck.

The usual contact waste.

I got these as samples with my last Sephora order, with the two Farmacy products I ordered. These were all right, I didn’t like the Daily Greens, it felt sticky. I think I liked the Honey Halo, but not more than the First Aid Beauty Ultra-Repair Cream I normally use.

Face wax strips, I want to go back to getting a professional to do my facial hair removal again. I think I’m too harsh with it, my face is always so red and irritated for days afterwards. But they work.

I have been using this stuff since high school, I would really like to find a low waste/not tested on animals alternative to this.

Another travel mini. I couldn’t find the 100mL size in Northwestern Ontario, so I made sure to buy one when I was down south. I wanted to have a travel contact solution for my work travel prep pack. We generally don’t stay overnight, but we are supposed to be prepared for if we get weathered in.

The holy grail. I haven’t re-ordered this yet, but I will. The only thing I don’t like about this product is the price.
