December Empties: Lotion, Mascara, and the Germolene fan club

It has been a full year of logging my empties and tracking my waste and doing a Project Pan, I’m going to go through them all and see if there are any conclusions I can draw or lessons I can learn.

But December was a very normal month, although I have to say that I am thrilled to finally use up the lotion that is pictured below, I must have been using it for nearly 2 years! It is astonishing how long it can take to use up some products and how quickly you can go through others.

This lotion took me forever to finish. It was a decent lotion, but quite sticky and didn’t help my eczema as much as I had hoped it would. It was also way too heavy to be used in the warm months, which might be why it took me nearly 2 years to get through it. But now, I’m excited to move on to another lotion, a LaRoche-Posey one that I left at my parents’ when I moved last March and then I bought a tub of Sol-de-Janeiro Brazilian Bum-Bum cream because it is my very favourite. I just love that scent. I also love that the tub will be fully recyclable. After that however, I want to try The Body Stone, I am skeptical that a solid can have the same impact as a lotion that I generally need, especially in the winter. But the package-free aspect appeals to me.

My normal contact lens waste. I would really like to start the process for Lasik this year, at least see if I’m a candidate or not.

This is a wrapper from a bar of soap. I prefer to get my bars of soap unwrapped or in recyclable packaging because the whole reason I use soap bars is to reduce waste. This was for Ivory soap, which is just soap, but it does have a nice scent.

This is the Ilia Limitless Lash Lengthening Mascara. I didn’t love it at first, but it really grew on me. I am currently using the Ilia Fullest Volumizing Mascara, their newest one and I’m also not really sure about it either. With the Lengthening Mascara, I didn’t feel like it made my lashes dark enough or full enough, I actually liked its effect better after I got my lashes lifted and tinted. This mascara also doesn’t help your lashes hold a curl, which may be part of why I liked it better after the lash lift, because they were permed to hold a curl rather than needing mascara’s help to do so.

If you’re from Britain or Ireland then you probably know this one. Germolene is far and away the superior antiseptic cream over Neosporin or Polysporin or any of those. You put this on a cut or a popped pimple and go to bed and your wound is basically healed over night. And it has a bit of a numbing effect. I need a restock, so I’ll have to find an online British and Irish store to get some from.

I also feel like I’ve gone backwards a bit, I was running really low on stuff after a year of Project Pan and using stuff up and cleaning stuff out and I did a re-stock Sephora order during the holiday sale and then when I was in one in person over the holidays I bought some of the things that I had removed from my cart during the sale, so my make up box is looking fuller than I have seen it in a long time. Seems a bit daft now that we are back in lockdown.
