It’s the most, wonderful time of the year – for popular movie lovers. Listen, other seasons have great movies and films, Christmas has great movies. There are amazing seasonless movies, but Halloween movies are a genre on another level. These are the most fun movies, even if you’re a little scared or they’re completely ridiculous, that’s why they’re fun. Halloween is the holiday with no deeper significance, it is just about costumes, parties, and candy. There’s no arguing about remembering to be grateful, or weight of colonization, or remembering the “true spirit of Christmas”, or the “reason we fast” or whatever. It is just fun.
Halloweentown
A Halloween classic, on Disney+.
Harry Potter
I know I put this in my Thanksgiving movie round-up, but it is also a must for Halloween movies. In particular Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, but it scares me the most. That big snake is terrifying.
Twitches
This movie is iconic, Tia and Tamara Mowry give one of their best performances of the early 2000s. On Disney+.
Jennifer’s Body
I haven’t seen this, but the recent resurgence in Megan Fox’s popularity makes me want to watch this movie. I think it’s on Prime.
Hocus Pocus
This is one of my favourite Halloween movies of all time. The music, the virgin-shaming, Binx, it’s 90s perfection. This is on Disney+.
Double Double Toil and Trouble
A holiday without a Mary-Kate and Ashley movie is no holiday at all. It looks like this is on Hulu, but we don’t have that in Canada, or you can rent it for 2.99 on Amazon.
Practical Magic
The best Halloween movie ever. This is available on Crave with a Starz extension, that I don’t have, or to rent for 3.99 for Prime.
The Scooby Doo Movie
Scooby Doo dressed in a grandma outfit is all we really need. This is on Crave with the HBO Plus extension.
The Nightmare Before Christmas
I don’t actually like this movie that much, but it is a Halloween classic. It’s on Disney+
Beetlejuice
This is another classic that I haven’t seen. Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice. This is on Netflix Canada.
SpOoOoOoOoOoky Halloween,
Laura
