What I Read in November

I read two whole books in November, which I maybe should have read more given I was going for a No-Spend November, but I didn’t. I did read a whole book in one evening, which was lovely.

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

I read this book because I watched the television series last October and loved it. It’s also been a regular recommendation from the Bad on Paper podcast’s Becca Freeman (there is a theme apparently for November’s reads) for a witchy, dark academia, smart, spooky read and it was exactly that. I was super impressed by how well the series stuck to the book, and even though I’ve seen all the seasons of the show, I really want the next two books in the series to see if that continues.

The Christmas Orphans Club by Becca Freeman.

I told you there was a theme! This is Bad on Paper podcast host, Becca’s, first book and I obviously had to buy it because she feels like a friend after having her in my ears for nearly five years. This book tells the story of a friend group’s last Christmas together before one of them moves across the country to Los Angeles for a job. Every year they do something together on Christmas, except they didn’t last year because the first two friends of the group haven’t spoken in almost a year. It’s such a story of real friendships, falling in and falling out and I love that the City is the 5th friend in the story.

It is a really enjoyable book, one of the better Christmas books I have ever read and I love that it’s not a romance. There is romance, but it’s not a romance.

I am taking a solid week off at Christmas, and I am looking forward to eating chocolate and reading for the whole week, so hopefully the What I Read in December post is full of reviews.
