I struggle most of the time with trends. I live in a super small, remote town that fashion takes a minute to reach and people just dress very casually. And personally, I find that my ideal style leans towards the “classic American” or “scholarship student at an English public school”. Neutral with pops of colour, classic silhouettes, natural fabrics, more structured than oversized, brown or black leather accessories, so I like when the trends circle back to that. Which is what usually happens in the autumn, but this year, there are also unique things/very 90s things that I am surprised by how much I am into.
Pops of Red
I describe my office outfits as “black and white, with a pop of colour”, so this pop of red trend is very up my alley. Which, as a redhead, is odd for me. However, the handbags, boots, flats, and even cardigans are super cute to me.
If I had no budget, this would be the red handbag I would go for. However, I do have a budget, so I’m still on the hunt for one of a similar shape. But maybe this Danier one (there’s only 2 left, so I make no promises if you like that one.
For the cardigan, I have literally always wanted a Sezanne cardigan. But I’m not certain I’ll actually invest in this, I think I need to ease in with accessories first.
These are more pumps than flats, but I love the shiny cherry red, it’s very Cheryl Blossom, which as a redhead venturing into the red world, is obviously the blueprint. However, I think a burgundy boot may be a more “dip your toe in” option.
Denim Maxi Skirts
This has been a trend for a bit, but it took me a few months to warm up to it. Of course, it’s going to be getting too cold for them soon, but that’s beside the point. I really like how these are covered up, but have a little hint of skin and shows off the shoes.
I think they can be styled with tall boots, ankle boots (both with a heel), loafers, sneakers (low tops only, with socks), and like potato shoes (what the poor kids of west Tennessee called the knock-off Birkenstock Bostons of the early 2000s). I actually am finding styling it with shirt harder than shoes, which isn’t what I was expecting.
Jackets and Sweaters
I’m not even going to elaborate here, it’s autumn. There is nothing better than getting to have fun with jackets and sweaters without having to worry about stuffing them into coats than in the autumn. It’s just the most fun.
Are there any trends I didn’t highlight that you love?
Laura
