TV Sucks Lately: A YouTube Round-Up

Before anyone takes this the wrong way, I am fully in support of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, and it’s summer so it’s not like there would be new TV anyways even if they weren’t on strike. However, I am not enjoying anything available on anything of the streaming services right now. I have started and stopped an unbelievable amount of shows lately.

So I am in my YouTube era at the moment, so I thought I would do a little round up of all the YouTubers I’ve been enjoying to fill in my TV time. And I love TV, and watch a lot of TV, so there’s a lot of time to fill.

Caroline Winkler has to be first. She is absolutely my favorite YouTuber I have ever encountered. She started as an interior design Youtuber, and still does that, but she has also branched out into lifestyle content. She’s so funny, brash, and it feels like she is actually teaching you something. I have a complete parasocial relationship with her and think she is so cool.

Allana is my newest YouTube find. She’s a fashion/beauty/lifestyle YouTuber, but it’s her personality. She’s one of those people who is so physically beautiful that if she said she was a big goofball you would roll your eyes and be like “yeah, okay.” (like a girl on The Bachelor), but she actually is. I really enjoy every video, although to be honest I skip on some of the beauty content, just because it’s not really my favorite. I’m also trying to avoid being influenced at the moment.

Alexis is also new-ish to me. I guess she would be in the productivity/lifestyle category. She’s an aspiring theatre actress in New York City and she just documents her life and feels like a very normal 20-something. I find her vlogs comforting.

Hannah and Alexis are probably pretty similar, but they have very different personalities. I also feel like Hannah is not someone that I should relate to so much because she’s a 23 year old living in New York as a full-time content creator, but I don’t know I just connect with her.

Morgan is also relatively new to me, she’s also new-ish to YouTube. She was a fashion and TV presenter but started dating Taylor Fritz (number 15 in tennis in the world) and traveling with him all the time and pivoted to influencing and YouTube to keep working on the road. She’s so cute and I really like her fashion sense. She is so Barbie and I really enjoy her vlogs.

I got into Zoe’s content because it’s actually really hard to find Canadian finance content. Especially Canadian finance content that isn’t done by some finance bro. But I also really enjoy her vlog and chatty style videos as well.

This list is actually making me really proud of the job I’ve done curating Canadian content creators, I don’t think I’ve done that on any other social media platform. Allegra is one of my og YouTube finds, I feel like we’ve grown up together in a weird way.

I’m not a huge video essay watcher, but when I do, it’s almost certainly a Mine Le video essay. She is such a thorough researcher and good story teller. Love her work.

There are so many more, but they either haven’t been posting recently so I’m not sure if they are active at the moment or I haven’t been watching them recently, which means I haven’t been enjoying their content as much lately.

If you are a YouTube girlie, who are you watching lately?

Laura
