What I’m Buying in February

This is going to be a new series, a part of the financial accountability I’m striving for. But I don’t feel like that quite sums it up, it’s about being thoughtful about how I spend my money, what I bring into my house, what I put onto and into my body and just generally overall about how I spend my time and money and as the quote says “how you spend your time, is how you live your life” (a poor paraphrase of a quote by Annie Dillard in The Writing Life).

So what am I buying in February? Some thing’s I’ve already bought (this is going live on February 16).

So my first purchase of February was the Ophelia Dress in Moody Floral from Hill House Home, I haven’t received it yet so I can’t pass comment yet, but it might be here on the 17th, so I’ll have opinions soon. All I know right now is that it looks stunning. And a bit boob-alicious.

I also placed an Amazon order. I never used to shop on Amazon before I moved up north, but there are so many things that are just not available here and when I ask different shop employees they look at me like I have three heads. So in my Amazon order I have: this silly thing to help me get lotion into the middle of my back, a Pomodoro timer for helping me focus at work, and a phone case that is designed to stick to mirrors and glass. I’ve had an idea in my head for helping me stick to my goal of getting ready most days of the week (it is not at all a S.M.A.R.T. goal) and I think that filming getting ready would help with that, thanks to me primarily functioning of external motivation.

Oh and I “subscribe” to a shipment of the liners for my Litter Genie.

I also need to restock on lotion, hand cream, and chapstick. My skin is dry, itchy, and verging on cracking. It’s rough. So I’m planning on going to Dryden in the next couple weeks to go to Shoppers Drug Mart to stock up on Aquaphor, La Roche Posay, and Burt’s Bees Lip Balms. I would consider getting it on Amazon but thanks to “slugging” trending on TikTok, us eczema girls are struggling with price hikes and it being out of stock.

And then finally, unexpectedly, I have to replace the battery in my car. And I need to get my car towed to the shop, so I got a quote for $460 for the tow, testing the current battery, a new battery, and labour. So that is super annoying. I’m away for a few days for work, so the lady on the phone said to wait until I was back so that I could drive to charge the battery up properly. I’m also going to get a quote to get a block heater installed in my car, I won’t be doing it this month, nor probably until like October or November of this year, if I’m going to spend another winter up here. But I want to be able to budget for it, because I’ve heard they are expensive. So in general a bummer, and apparently I’m not leaving my car problems in 2021.

So that’s it, it’s not really exciting, except for the nap dress, but I think that’s kind of the theme of the year. Sensible, thoughtful, necessary, with the odd fun, pretty thing.
