Phew, what a week. I was in Toronto most of the week for a conference, and I was so excited about it and it was great, until Tuesday night.
I committed the cardinal sin of any person who has migraines, I forgot to drink water on Tuesday morning. My migraines have a few triggers, but the biggest one is dehydration. So by 1pm Tuesday when I finally found a cup and a water cooler I already knew I was in trouble. But I was meeting up with my best friend that night for dinner and we live 2000 kilometres apart. I was not going to miss it for anything. So I drank as much water as I could during the afternoon and texted her to bring me some advil and hoped that would be enough. Oh was I wrong. I got home from dinner and the nausea was kicking in hard. I went to bed hoping I could sleep through it. I could not. I have not thrown up like that since the time I had to buy a decorative bucket from Ikea because I threw up in it (it was a bad day). And then after I had rid myself of my entire stomach contents my body decided that was not enough and we also needed to empty my entire large intestine. I was basically up all night. I was so weak and shaky in the morning, but I felt like I had to go to day two of the conference. I was already up, so I got ready and went over and regretted it almost immediately. The rooms were so hot, I was so tired, and my entire body ached. Halfway through the opening keynote, I knew I was going to faint. So I got up, calmly exited, and went to the staff person at the door and said, “I am going to faint, is there anywhere I can lie down?”. And luckily they had a room with a cot and a first aid kit, and I lay in there with the lights off for probably an hour to an hour and a half, and then I went back for the rest of the morning sessions. And then the smell of lunch started to waft through the building and while I did not have anything left to purge from my body, boy did it try. So I went back to the hotel and got in bed and stayed there until 9pm. However, as of Thursday I am feeling much better, I went to my scheduled Pilates class (it was a lighter flow-style – if you live in Toronto it’s called The Blend with Maddy Cassidy at Sweat and Tonic, I am obsessed with it). And I have eaten a few bites of food throughout the day, some bread, some potatoes, a bagel, a few bites of egg (but eggs and chicken can turn my stomach on a good day, so that was a no). But yeah, there is more information than any of you asked for. But Thursday was a big day because I had Pilates, had to fly back to Thunder Bay, and then drive home. So, I had to feel better.
Moving on. I’m so sorry.
