For me, there is nothing better, nothing cozier than piling onto the couch with a cup of hot chocolate or tea, a soft blanket, and an autumnal movie or TV series. It’s jus the epitome of a fall evening.

First a note, these are autumn movies and shows, not Halloween, that’s a different list. Although, you could probably argue with me about Buffy, Angel, Harry Potter, and Stranger Things being creepy and supernatural and therefore part of the Halloween list. However, I think the vibes are more autumnal than Halloween-y, but I’m okay with being wrong.
Firstly, the movies:
- You’ve Got Mail – bouqets of pencils, Meg Ryan carrying a pumpkin, autumn in New York. It doesn’t get better than that (Netflix or Starz on Crave or Amazon).
- Mona Lisa Smile – it’s just so academic (not available for streaming in Canada).
- Knives Out – it just feels like autumn, and Chris Evans in that cable knit sweater that launched a thousand ships (Amazon).
- The Harry Potter Series – just so cozy and fun.
- Little Women – again, just so cozy (the 2019 version is on Netflix).
- Legally Blonde – of course starting law school in Boston has to be autumnal.
- Good Will Hunting – again, major academia vibes, Boston in the fall (Netflix).
- Mean Girls – an essential for October 3rd (Netflix).
- Remember the Titans – I try to keep away from sports movies, but there is something about this one, that is so perfect (Disney+ and Prime).
And the television shows:
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer – set within a school, Giles, vampires, witches, 90s vibes (Disney+).
- Angel – you can’t have Buffy without Angel, and there’s something about the broodiness and old books (Disney+).
- Gilmore Girls – I mean duh (Netflix).
- Gossip Girl – no show has done Thanksgiving episodes better than Gossip Girl did (Crave).
- Stranger Things – middle school, autumn, board games, creepy fall vibes (Netflix).
- Only Murders in the Building – autumn in New York, cool jackets, creepy vibes (Disney+).
- One Tree Hill – where I grew up, basketball was the big fall sport rather than football (yes, even though that was in Tennessee), so to me One Tree Hill is so fall (Prime).
- Friday Night Lights – however, nothing says autumn in America like football (Crave).
- Elite – This is in Spanish, but the wealthy academic vibes are impeccable.
Get cozy and happy watching!
Laura
