What a week! I spent last weekend at Pi Phi Convention in Phoenix, Arizona and then an extra day lounging around at this resort that I absolutely cannot afford and loved every single second of it. We were all making jokes about drinking the Pi Phi Kool-Aid and sororities being cults, but call the deprogramer, I loved it all. There is something about being in a room of a 1000 women who are already your friend, even if they don’t know you. I also loved getting to meet two of the collegians I support in person for the first time.
I also had this moment after I had put them in an Uber to the airport for their flight (earlier than mine), where I was sitting at the bar, at this insane resort, realizing how far I have come. I was watching the servers and the water cart kids and remembering my summer as a cart girl, as a turkey minder, working at Tim Hortons, scrubbing kennels in vet clinics and just having a big moment of gratitude that I was there and wasn’t stressed about affording my meal, didn’t feel like the quality of my clothes made me stand out in the crowd as someone who didn’t belong there (although I absolutely cannot currently afford to stay there on my own, so thanks Pi Phi).
Then on Wednesday I flew to New York. I have been having a great time, this is my second time visiting the city and I feel like I’m loving it even more. I’m much less focused on hitting up all the touristy spots and have just been vibing. However y’all, in both places it has been so god damn hot. It’s probably 10 degrees Celsius cooler in New York than in Phoenix but the humidity absolutely makes it feel about the same, if not worse in New York. What is also worse about New York is that I’m out walking about, whereas in Phoenix if I was outside, I was in the pool or next to the pool, so very different circumstances. Anyways, I’m having a great time on vacation! And am actually really looking forward to going to the UK next, not just to see family, but to cool down!
